History

Hacettepe University Institute of Fine Arts was established on July 3, 1992 in accordance with Law No. 3837. However, the purpose of becoming an independent postgraduate education and training institute, which was the reason for the establishment of the Institute, could not be realized until 2012; the Institute continued its activities under the identity of a research institute for nearly 20 years. The proposal for "the Institute to gain the identity of an independent graduate education and training institute", which was subject to the decision of Hacettepe University Senate dated March 29, 2012 and numbered 2012/77, was approved by the General Assembly of Higher Education on June 05, 2012. In accordance with the aforementioned decision, the Departments of Arts and Sciences and graduate programs, which had been active in education and training under the umbrella of the Institute of Social Sciences of our University until that date, were transferred to the Institute as of December 01, 2012. According to the available records, the Institute is the largest Institute of Fine Arts in Turkey with 11 Departments, 4 Divisions and 33 graduate programs.
